THE PROBLEM

A surgeon releasing a book aimed at reducing opioid usage among patients wanted to consolidate his digital presence by migrating his website from Wix to Shopify. At the time, his main website lived on Wix while book purchasers were redirected to a separate Shopify site with a different domain and structure, causing user friction and splitting SEO authority.

He already had strong organic traffic on his Wix site and was concerned that a migration could damage his existing rankings. I was brought in to manage the transition with a focus on technical SEO and preserving his organic search performance.

THE SOLUTION

I began by auditing the full Wix site - including the sitemap, URL structure, and all technical SEO elements using Screaming Frog. From there, I developed a unified sitemap that combined his current content with the existing Shopify store.

I mapped out all necessary 301 redirects, optimized and standardized meta titles and descriptions, added missing metadata and canonical tags, and ensured alignment with SEO best practices. I also coordinated DNS updates with the front-end developer to ensure a smooth cutover without interrupting search visibility or user access.

THE RESULTS

The website was successfully migrated to Shopify with the primary domain preserved and all 301 redirects functioning correctly. Organic traffic remained stable throughout the transition and saw slight improvements due to strengthened technical SEO and metadata enhancements.
